Omro is a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,517 at the 2010 census. The city is located along the Fox River, approximately 10 miles west of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The first modern settlers visited in 1847. By 1880, Omro was a stop on the railroad line and was home to the county fairgrounds, several mills, a glass factory, carriage factories, several machine works, and had a population greater than 2,000. Since Omro began a revitalization process in 1986, it has seen growth. Several projects pay respects to Omro's past, including a historical walking tour, the Scott park pavilion project, and the designation of a historic downtown district. Omro is located at 44°220N 88°4424W (44.038959, -88.74014).According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.52 square miles (6.53 km²), of which, 2.35 square miles of land is land and 0.17 sq miles (0.44 km²) is water. It is located on the south side of the Neenah [Fox] river, 11 miles west from OshKosh, and 75 miles northeast from Madison. One widely held version of how the town was named is that it was named for Charles Amereau, a French trader and blacksmith who started a fur trading post there.
History

Eventually most of the manufacturers either relocated to nearby Oshkosh, or faded away. Since Omro began a revitalization process in 1986, it has seen growth. Several projects pay respects to Omro's past, including a historical walking tour, the Scott park pavilion project, and the designation of a historic downtown district. The first modern settlers visited in 1847. The area encompassing present day Omro. was WinneBago Indian Territory when it was first visited by French explorers in 1639. Omro is on one of the few natural transportation and communications routes of the time and an abundant amount of water for industrial use. It is on the south side of the Neenah [Fox] river, 11 miles west from Oshkos, and 75 miles northeast from Madison. It has a rich soil of openings and prairie on the north, and has excellent facilities by water for obtaining pine logs from the immense pinery of Wolf river, a great quantity of which is here manufactured into lumber. The town is located on the junction of the Manitowoc and Menasha roads.

It is located on the Gulf of Mexico, at the tip of the Yucatán Peninsula, and has an elevation of 44°22N, 88° 4424W, or 1,716.4 km. The town's population is 2,814.5, or 2,717.4 in the US census bureau's count. Its area of land is 6.53 kilometers, or 3,722.4 square miles. Its population of water is 0.3 square miles (0.44 km²), or 0.2 square miles (0,719.2 km²). It is the only city in the state of New Mexico with a population over 1,000.

Religion
Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church is a member of the Evangelicals Lutheran Synod in Omro. The church is dedicated to the God of the Bible, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. It is also known as the "Messiah Church" or "Messy Church" for its use of the word "messy" in the church's name. It was founded in the 17th century by a group of German Lutherans. It has been in existence since the 16th century. It currently has a congregation of about 2,000 people. It also has a church in the town of Omro, in the north of the country, which has a population of about 1,000. It's also known for its religious activities, such as its liturgical celebrations and its annual Christmas celebrations. The Church is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod, which also includes the Church of the Nativity of Jesus Christ and the Lutheran Church of Latter-day Saints. The Synod was established in 1847.
