Menasha is a city in Calumet and Winnebago counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 18,268 at the 2020 census. The city is located at 44°13N 88°26W (44.2129, 88.4362). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.52 square miles (19.48 km²) In the Menominee language, it is known as Menhsaeh, meaning "little island". Menasha is home to the Barlow Planetarium and Weis Earth Science Museum, both housed at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Fox Cities Campus. The name comes from the WinneBago word meaning "thorn" or "island". In the 2010 census there were 17,353 people, 7,405 households, and 4,415 families living in the city. In the 2000 census, there were 16,331 people, 6,951 households,and 4,271 housing units. The racial makeup of the city was 90.8% White, 1.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 3.1% Asian, 0,1% Pacific Islander, and 2.7% from two or more races. The Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.9%. The gender makeup ofThe city was 49.4% male and 50.6% female. The 2010 census had a combined population of 392,660. The 2020 census has an estimated population of 409,881.

Geography

Menasha is located at 44°13N 88°26W (44.2129, 88.4362). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.52 square miles (19.48 km²) of which, 6.03square miles (15.62km²) is land and 1.49sq miles (3.86sq km) is water. The city is located on the Ural River, which flows through the center of the city. Menasha is home to the Menasha High School, which was founded in 1883. The Menasha School District was established in 1887. The school district was the first in the state to graduate from high school. It was also the first high school in the United States to graduate with a bachelor's degree. It is also the only high school to have graduated with a master's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The University of North Dakota also has a campus in Menasha, which opened in 1894. The campus is known as Menasha State College and is located in the eastern part of the state. It has a population of 2,816. The town is located near the Ura River, where it is the only major city in the region that is not entirely within the state of Nebraska. It also has an airport on the main stem of the Urapahoe River that is the state's only major water supply. The Urapahsoe River runs through the city, which is the city's largest waterway.

The city is in the AppletonOshkoshNeenah CSA, a Combined Statistical Area which includes Appleton (Calumet and Outagamie counties) and Oshkosh neenah (Winnebago County) The CSA had a combined population of 392,660 at the2010 census and an estimated population of 409,881 as of 2019. At the 2020 census, there were 18,268 people residing in Menasha. The racial makeup of the city was 85.9% White, 1.8% African American, 3.1% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, and 3.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.2%. The median household income was $39.936, and the median family income was $36,705. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was2.95. The median age was 36 years, with 24.8 per cent of residents being under the age of 18. The gender makeup was 49.4 per cent male and 50.6 per cent female. The population density was 2,877.8 inhabitants per square mile (1,111.1/km²). There were 7,973 housing units at an average density of 1,322.2 per squaremile (510.5/ km²).

Government

The city of Menasha has a city council-mayor system of government. There are eight districts in the city, each represented by an aldermen. The council meets weekly with the mayor, Don Merkes. The city has a population of about 2,000 people. It is located on the banks of the Menasha River, which flows into the Mississippi River. The Menasha City Council is made up of seven men and one woman. The mayor is a Republican, and the city council is made of four Democrats and one Republican. It has a total of eight districts, each of which is represented by a different alderman. The City Council meets weekly and the mayor meets once a week. Religion

The Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) has two churches in Menasha: Bethel Lutheran Church and Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.Architect Harry Weese designed Menasha's St Thomas' Episcopal Church. WELS is a member of the United States Lutheran Church in America. The WELS was founded in 1847. Wels is a sister church of the U.S. Evangelical Lutheran Synod. It was formed in 1852. WELS is a part of the Lutheran Church-USA, which was established in 1854. It is based in Madison, Wisconsin, and has its headquarters in Wisconsin City, Wisconsin. It also has a church in Madison's East Side, which is home to the WELS' second church, St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The church is also home to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, which dates back to the 17th century. The Lutheran Church in Wisconsin is also based in Madison, Wisconsin and has two other churches in the city, Bethel and Mount Calvary. The churches were built in the 19th and 20th centuries. They were designed by architect Harry Weese, who also designed St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Wisconsin and St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Wisconsin. The two churches are connected by a road that runs through Menasha. The road is also known as the Menasha Road, which runs through the town.

The Communication Arts Center is a 51,000 square foot facility academic building with an art gallery and theatrical/musical performances. The Wisconsin River is a popular tourist attraction in Menasha, Wisconsin. It runs through the center of the Fox Cities campus and is home to the Wisconsin River Interpretive Center, which is open to the public. It is also the home of the Wisconsin State Museum, which houses the Wisconsin Science Museum and the Wisconsin Art Museum, among other exhibits. The River is also a popular destination for kayakers and other water-occasional water enthusiasts.
