Kloa is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Kauai County, Hawaii, United States. The population was 2,231 at the 2020 census, up from 1,942 at the 2000 census. The first successful sugarcane plantation in the Hawaiian Islands was started here in 1835. The name is often incorrectly translated as "native duck", which is the correct translation for the similar-looking koloa (without the macron). Kloa means "a long cane with a crook." According to one account, the district was named for a steep rock called Pali-o-k-loa which was found in Waikomo Stream. The community is located on the southern side of the island of Kauai at 21°5426N 159°2757W (21.907137, -159.465877). It is bordered to the northwest by Omao and to the south by Poipu. Geography

Kloa is located on the southern side of the island of Kauai at 21°5426N 159°2757W (21.907137, -159.465877) It is bordered to the northwest by Omao and to the south by Poipu. Waikomo Stream passes through the center of the community. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.2 km²), all of it recorded as land. It is located in the central part of the Hawaiian island of Kauai, on the island's southern side. It has a population of about 2,000. The CDP is home to the Kauai High School, which was founded in 1883. The school was the first in Kauai to offer a high school diploma to its students. It was also the first high school in the Hawaiian Islands to offer an associate degree. It also offers a bachelor's degree in business and a master's degree from the University of Hawaiian and the Hawaii Institute of Technology. The community has a history of more than 100 years of continuous continuous growth. The population of Kloa as of the U.S. Census Bureau has not been recorded since the 1950s. About 26.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.0% of those under age 18 and 6.5%. The CDP is located on the New Jersey Turnpike, which runs from New Jersey to New Jersey. The Turnpikes are a major highway, running through the town. It is the only major highway through the city. The town is also the only one in New Jersey that runs through the state's New England region. It was the site of the U.S. Civil War, and the Battle of the Bulge, which took place in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The city's name is derived from the word "bulge" or "bullet" which means "to blow up" or to blow up.

History

The Old Sugar Mill of Koloa was the first major sugarcane plantation in Hawaii in 1835. Missionary Daniel Dole and his family opened a boarding school for English-speaking children, sometimes called the Koloa Academy, in 1855. The school is now a private school called Koloa Preparatory School. It is located on the island of Kaua'i, in the central part of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Notable natives

Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Piikoi, born at Hoai, Kualu in Koloa, was an heir to the throne of Hawaii. He served as minister of the interior for the Kingdom of Hawaii and later became the Republican delegate to the U.S. Congress in 1903. Raymond Kne, slack-key guitarist, was born in Hoai and grew up at Koloa. He was the son of Prince Jonah and his wife, the daughter of King Kamehameha III and Queen Liliuokalani. Kne was a member of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra. He is also known for his work with the Honolulu Kiwanis and the Hawaiian Symphony Orchestra, among other things. He died at the age of 80 in a car accident in 1998. He has been remembered as one of the best-loved members of the Hawaiian music community. His son, Prince Jonah, was also a prominent member of Hawaii's music community, and served as the president of the Kaua'i Music Festival from 1998 to 2002. He also played in the Hawaii State Symphony Orchestra from 2000 to 2002, and was the first member to play in the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra in the late 1930s and early 1940s. His grandson, Prince Kuhio, is also a well-known musician, having played in a number of Hawaii bands, including the Kailua-Kona Symphony Orchestra and the Hawaii Jazz Band. His great-great-grandson, Jonah, also played for the Hawaii state symphony orchestra.
