Morrilton is a city in Conway County, Arkansas, United States, less than 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Little Rock. The city is the county seat of Conway County. The population was 6,992 at the 2020 United States census. In 1883 Morrilton became the seat of the county. U.S. Route 64 (East and West Broadway Street) is the main road through the city center, leading east 6 miles (10 km) to Plumerville and northwest 13 miles (21km) to Atkins. Interstate 40 passes through the northern side of the city, leading southeast 48 miles (77 kilometers) to Little Rock and west 107 miles (172 km) to Fort Smith. History

Morrilton is the primary city name, but also Oppelo are acceptable city names or spellings, Dabney, Hickory Hill, Lanty, Lewisburg, Riverview, Sandtown, Wesley Chapel on the other hand no longer accepted or obsolete and are no longer used as a designation. The official name is Morrilton, Arkansas. Morrilton is a town in Conway County, Arkansas. It was established in 1825 as a trading post on the Arkansas River. In 1871 the Little Rock and Fort Smith Railroad built track through present-day Morrilton. The town was named after the previous landowners E.J. and George H. Morrill. The downtown grew around the Morrills' land and that owned by James M. Moose. It became the seat of Conway County in 1883 after being incorporated in 1844. It is located on the north bank of the Arkansas river, about a mile south of the town of Lewisburg, which was founded in 1824. The city's population was about 1,500 in 1843. It has a population of about 2,000. In 1883, the county seat was moved from Lewisburg to Morr Milton, where it is still located today. The county seat is now in the city of Conway, about two miles north of the river, on the east bank of Arkansas River, near the junction of the Little River and the Arkansas Turnpike. The Arkansas Highway 9 forms an eastern bypass of Morr Milton and leads north and south 40 miles and 40 miles, respectively, to Clinton, Perryville, and Fort Smith. It is also on Interstate 40, leading southeast 48 miles (77 km) and west 107 miles (172 km), to Little Rock, Fort Smith, and Atkins. The town has a population of 1,816. Arts and culture

Many sites located in Morrilton are on the National Register of Historical Places. The Rialto Theatre has been in operation for over 100 years. The Museum of Automobiles is located on nearby Petit Jean Mountain and features a collection of antique and classic cars, motorcycles, guns, license plates, arcade machines and automobile memorabilia. The Morr Milton Depot Museum is located in the historic MorRilton Railroad Station and features history on the area. The Arkansas Christian College Administration Building is a former school building located at 100 W Harding Street. The UACCM Fine Arts Auditorium is on the campus of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morr Hilton and serves as the main auditorium for the college and hosts public events. The West Church Street Historic District is home to the finest late-19th and early-20th century homes in the town. The town is located at the intersection of Moose and Church Streets in downtown. The city was home to Harding College, now Harding University of Searcy, Arkansas, for about a decade in the 1920s and 1930s. The Conway County Library is one of two public libraries in the state of Arkansas functioning from its original Carnegie building. Sacred Heart Catholic School is the only private school in the city of Morr Milton and was established in 1879. The town's first public school for white students opened in 1881 and the first school for African-Americans opened in 1895. In 1980 the East Side, Morr Hilton, and Plumerville School districts consolidated to form the new South Conway County district. As of 2018, the district consists of five schools. The SCCSD public high school is MorRilton High School. The community's public school system is operated by the South Conway county School District.
