North Matewan is an unincorporated community in Mingo County, West Virginia, United States.It is located on West Virginia Route 65, 1 mile (1.6 km) east-northeast of Matewan. North Matewan has a post office with ZIP code 25688. It has a population of about 1,000, according to the United States Census Bureau. The community was founded in the 1800s by the Matewan family, who moved to the area from Ohio. The town was named after a local family of the same name, who also settled in the area in the early 1800s. The current post office has a ZIP code of 25688, and the community has a police station with a station population of less than 100,000. It is located near the junction of West Virginia Highway 65 and West Virginia State Route 65 in the eastern part of the county, about 1 mile east of the town of Matewana.
